Barker College has become aware of a discussion on Sydney radio on Tuesday 25 August, pertaining to a Spotlight section of a textbook used in Year 11 Geography, Global Interactions 11 4th edn. This is the only available textbook used for the New South Wales Stage 6 Geography syllabus and is widely used throughout New South Wales schools.
There have been no previous comments about this textbook. However, we acknowledge that the “Spotlight” section in this textbook is unhelpful.
The School does not take a particular view on issues debated in the public square. Barker encourages students to examine varying perspectives within public discourse, pursue their own lines of enquiry across a wide range of subjects and develop an informed understanding of complex issues.
