As is the School’s custom, we were delighted to welcome back students from the Class of 2024, at a special Academic Assembly this week to recognise their wonderful contribution to the life of our school.
“You set records in the number of distinguished achievers and demonstrated what genuine excellence looks like,” Head of Barker College, Mr Phillip Heath AM, acknowledged in front of an audience of staff and Year 11 and 12 students.
“Thank you for the lasting legacy you have left in the life of the School.”
Chair of Barker’s School Council, Mr David Charles (Class of 1975), shared with the students, how we look to them as an emerging generation of innovators.
“It is your generation who will be our nation’s leaders. We need innovators and imaginative thinkers, problem solvers. These important attributes will come from the skills you develop at school and the learning discipline you acquire at Barker,” he said.
Two of our three students who achieved the highest ATARs of 99.90 in their year group, Julian and Arnav, encouraged the current Year 11 and 12 students to study with intent and reminded them that their physical and mental health is so important in the lead up to the HSC.
Several students were also recognised at the Academic Assembly for their overall improvement, which in some cases saw their final results jump by up to 150 places! They attributed this growth in their learning journey to everything from changing the way they learnt, improving their time management skills, ensuring a balance between study and spending time with friends, and setting screen time limits on their phones to avoid unwanted distractions whilst studying.
