IGCSE Global Perspectives

IGCSE Global Perspectives is a skills‑focused course where students explore global issues from multiple perspectives and develop critical, analytical and collaborative abilities. Through independent and team inquiry into topics such as the digital world, political power, society and the arts, media and communications, and global education, students strengthen their analytical and communication skills. Assessment through a written exam, an individual report and a team project allows them to demonstrate their learning in varied ways, preparing them to engage confidently with an interconnected world.

Year 9

In Year 9, students are introduced to the core skills that underpin success in IGCSE Global Perspectives. This is done by exploring the topics: The Digital World, Political Power and Action, and Society and the Arts.

Throughout the year, students learn to investigate issues from multiple viewpoints, strengthen their research and communication skills, and practise working both independently and collaboratively.

Assessment in Year 9 includes:

  • a Group Research Presentation,
  • an Independent Research Report, and
  • a written examination modelled on the IGCSE Global Perspectives paper.

These tasks provide an authentic taste of the IGCSE expectations and help students develop confidence in the core skills they will need in Year 10.

While students may enter Year 10 Global Perspectives without completing the Year 9 course, it is strongly recommended that they undertake Year 9 first, as it provides valuable preparation for the more rigorous IGCSE assessment requirements.

Year 10

In Year 10, students deepen their understanding by studying: Media and Communication, Education for All, plus student selected topics from the official Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives list.

The emphasis in Year 10 is on applying mature inquiry skills, refining independent judgment, and producing high‑quality evidence‑based work.

Assessment in Year 10 includes:

  • a Team Project,
  • an Independent Report, and
  • a written examination in the style of the formal IGCSE paper.

These components directly prepare students for the external IGCSE Global Perspectives written examination, which takes place in Term 4.

All Year 10 students enrolled in the subject sit this external exam.

Successfully completing Year 10 Global Perspectives allows students to earn an internationally recognised credential, contributing meaningfully to their academic record and strengthening their readiness for future senior studies.
