The study of Textiles Technology provides students with the opportunity to produce creative and innovative fashion solutions using a range of textile materials and processes. Investigations, experimentation and project work enable students to become discriminative in their choices of textiles for specific uses.
The skills in managing a project, designing, communicating and making are easily transferrable to the Fashion Industry and to other design professions.
- The majority of student time is spent designing and making projects.
- Concepts and skill development are integrated into practical projects to enable students to learn by doing.
- Students are also required to produce a design folio documenting the development of ideas, processes and techniques that they use.

Task 3: Apparel
Year 10
Students develop an understanding of the following:
• Functional and aesthetic aspects of textiles
• Historical, cultural and contemporary perspectives on textile design, construction and use
• The impact of textiles production and use on the individual consumer and society
• Evaluating textile items to determine quality in their design and construction
Students develop skills in the following areas:
• Justifying the selection of textile materials for specific end uses
• The generation of textile design ideas
• Colouring and decorating a range of textile items
• Using appropriate technology to creatively document, communicate and present design and project work
• Selecting and creatively manipulating a range of textile materials to produce quality textile items
• Competently managing the production of textile projects to completion.
Students investigate a range of sources for inspiration to develop their designs and research the practices, technologies and innovations used to design and manufacture in the Textiles Industry. Students analyse the economic, social and environmental consequences of implementing such practices.
